Picture perfect

On a cold rainy morning, walking in the city with my photographer, looking for a picture perfect spot. Wearing my pink vintage gown made by a designer I highly respect, and a pink lip to match, what could possibly go wrong? As we cross the streets, I'm busy looking for spots to shade myself from the rain. My curly hair was straightened this morning, and I cannot afford to get it wet. Otherwise, it will ruin my photograph, my picture perfect moment. With trained eyes, my photographer sees a spot and seizes the moment. I cross the street, looking straight to the lenses, feeling the strong wind blow and with it carrying raindrops. Harnessing all the angles, my photographer captures numerous shots and before long, we call it a day. As I walk back to the change room, my hair is wet, I am cold, and in need of a blanket... and perhaps a cuppa!
One thing, however, my picture is perfect, and none of that could be guessed unless of course, I told you.
When you think about life, that could not be far from the truth!
As I sit scrolling my feed on Instagram, all I see is picture perfect moments. With the pictures telling beautiful stories and capturing breathtaking moments, it's hard to tell that anything could have gone wrong.
...that beautiful girl who looks flawless may have stayed up all night trying to perfect her look.
...that man who flexes his guns and makes other men burn with envy spends countless hours in the gym and pays the price.
...that mother who twins with her toddler daughter may have just been recovering from a toddler tantrum.
...that colleague that seems to be trotting the globe may have been saving for a whole season.
In short, there is nothing such as 'picture perfect life'. Life is a rollercoaster. Some moments feel like they would be re-lived forever, while others would rather be forgotten and left in the past. While you are busy scrolling today, do not forget that behind every picture perfect shot, there lies a story; sometimes funny, other times ugly or even often than not, utterly ridiculous! Do not miss a picture perfect moment, but also be prepared to for the inconvenience. Otherwise, what would life be without all the twists and turns?
My picture perfect self.
